Witness Katherine Takpannie's worldview through lens, using knowledge of her history, culture and language to convey her vision. Her gentle, yet emotionally impactful artworks reveal the complexities and nuances of her urban Inuk story. Takpannie's visual storytelling expands out from portraiture to include lush landscapes and urban scenes, honouring the multifaceted experiences of many Indigenous people. From the National Arts Centre to Hui Malama O Ke Kai in Oahu, Katherine Takpannie has honoured and celebrated Inuit excellence. She wants to achieve a worthwhile career creating art that’s also purposeful, encaptivating and shares who she is. Photography has been her way to contribute meaningful art to our Canadian society. Takpannie believes that teaching about Inuit culture will help people understand our past and present.
